Businesses are becoming more and more reliant on human resources.
The demand for talent and expertise is increasing exponentially, and companies are trying to stay ahead of the curve in terms of training, hiring, and retaining talent.
But in India, where HR has become a major focus of the IT sector, many are finding it difficult to maintain a healthy culture of professionalism, according to a report by the consulting firm PEPSICO Human Resources.
According to a survey by the consultancy, Indian IT companies are struggling to keep up with the demands of their workforce.
“Despite their efforts to maintain an atmosphere of respect, a sense of dignity, and a level of respect for human beings, Indian HR departments do not meet the needs of their employees,” the report stated.
This lack of respect comes as India is expected to see a huge surge in IT-related jobs in the coming years.
The report also pointed out that there are many reasons behind this.
“While the Indian HR system does have a reputation of being a work-friendly environment, some of the employees that are coming into the HR space have an unhealthy relationship with the office and are not prepared to be a part of a culture that is very different from their own,” P. Sathya, a former HR executive and a founder of the consultancy told The Times Of India.
He added that this has made it difficult for Indian companies to keep their HR departments healthy.
“The problem is that while many Indian companies are well-run and are accountable, they lack the culture of respect that would help them in attracting the talent that they need,” he said.
A recent survey by India’s IT giant, Infosys, found that more than a third of its employees had a low regard for the workplace.
The survey found that one-third of employees had seen the work environment as “abysmal,” and that many were afraid of the workplace due to the high turnover rates and a lack of work-life balance.
A large number of Indian employees also felt undervalued by their employer, and one-quarter of them had said that their experience was “untenable.”
India’s Human Resources Department was not immune to the issues plaguing IT companies in India.
According a report published by The Indian Express, IT departments in the country faced a shortage of qualified candidates, as more and less people are joining the workforce.
While HR has been in a state of flux in the past couple of years, the IT industry is expected have another boom in the future.
India’s tech sector is expected increase to $6.5 trillion by 2021 from $5.4 trillion in 2017, according a McKinsey Global Institute report.
According To the report, India’s total workforce is expected grow to 9.2 million by 2021, with a population of 16.3 million people.
India is also expected to overtake the United States in terms, which will result in more than 10 million IT jobs in India by 2021.
The study further noted that the growing number of companies seeking to recruit from India has been an issue.
According the report: Indian companies may not have the necessary workforce and skills, particularly in technology-based fields.
Some of these companies may be too small and uncoordinated to take on the growing global IT market.
