Why UConn is paying $10 million to hire more women
The University of Connecticut announced Wednesday that it is paying a $10-million grant to hire an additional 50 female human resources employees, the largest hiring in the university’s history.UConn is one of the largest public universities in the U.S., with nearly 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students and 1,600 graduate students.
Uconn is also one of just a handful of schools to have made strides in hiring women in the past two years, with the university hiring 100 new female employees in 2017 and increasing its total number of women to 250.
In 2017, the university announced a hiring spree of female executives, including its vice president for human resources.
The university also announced the hiring of three new vice presidents for women in its Human Resources department.
U-Conn hired its first female vice president in 2017.
