‘No excuses’: Students protest against racism at UC Davis

A crowd of about 30 students and faculty gathered outside the office of UC Davis President Richard Wagner at noon on Friday, a day after a professor was fired and the university’s chancellor resigned amid allegations that the campus had failed to protect its racial and ethnic minority students.

About 50 students and 20 faculty gathered to demand Wagner’s resignation, and the demonstration was followed by a rally and rally of about 50 more students and students and 10 faculty members outside Wagner’s office.

UC Davis officials say Wagner is under investigation by the UCPD and is expected to resign in the coming days.

The rally was followed two days later by a public forum in which Wagner was questioned about allegations that he had mishandled a complaint against a white student by a black student, who was later charged with a crime.

UCPD Chief Scott Marder said Friday that the officer who investigated the incident was disciplined and not disciplined in the wake of the controversy.

The university did not respond to a request for comment on the UCOP investigation.

UCOP spokesman Mike McDonough told The Irish Star that Wagner was never disciplined, and said he has no evidence of an incident of misconduct by Wagner.

Wagner was hired by the university in March 2017 to replace UC Davis Chancellor Carol Christ, who resigned after a federal investigation into the handling of racial incidents.

Wagner, who has been on leave since August, has denied any wrongdoing.

In an email Friday, Wagner said that he was disappointed with the protests that were being held in the halls of the university, which he said was in a period of “extreme uncertainty” and “in the midst of very intense political pressure.”

“My role is to protect the university from political attacks,” Wagner wrote.

“As we have said before, the UC system will do everything in our power to support those who have been affected by racism, and I am confident that we will be able to work collaboratively with our allies and partners to address the ongoing challenges of racial injustice on our campus.” “

On Saturday, Wagner issued a statement condemning the protests, which it said were part of a “sick and twisted campaign” to silence those who oppose racial injustice. “

On Saturday, Wagner issued a statement condemning the protests, which it said were part of a “sick and twisted campaign” to silence those who oppose racial injustice.

“No matter how well-intentioned, no matter how good-natured or sincere, this kind of vitriol has no place in our campus community,” Wagner said.

“We are a university, not a place of violence.

Our values are our values.

“And this is not the first time the UC Board of Regents has been subjected to a similar attack. “

The regents have faced such bullying over a wide spectrum of issues from our commitment to diversity and inclusion to how we conduct our budget. “

And this is not the first time the UC Board of Regents has been subjected to a similar attack.

“Today, the regents were singled out, vilified, demonized and scapegoated. “

They have worked tirelessly to improve their student body and to ensure that everyone has the chance to participate in our vibrant community.” “

UCPD chief Scott Mardser said that Wagner’s actions are inconsistent with UCOP’s mission.

“There are no excuses for UCPD officers who take action that are not consistent with the university community’s values, and that is a fact,” he said.

Marders said Wagner has been in the UC Office of Civil Rights (OCR) since September 2017, when the OCR opened an investigation into UC Davis’s handling of the sexual assault allegations against former UC Davis assistant basketball coach Ryan Hall.

Mardsers said that during that time Wagner has continued to work with UC Davis to improve its campus climate.

UCO has said it will investigate all allegations of sexual assault and retaliation by UC Davis faculty, staff and students.

Wagner also has been criticized for using his office as a “safe space” to discuss campus issues with students, staff, and faculty.

Wagner said Friday he plans to speak about the university and campus issues in an upcoming address, in which he is expected discuss UCOP.
