‘No matter how much you talk about diversity, you’ll never get it’: UCF hires transgender women as assistant professors
The University of Central Florida announced Friday it is hiring transgender women for a number of positions in its human resources department.
“We know that transgender women have unique contributions to the field of human resources,” UCF President Mark Guglielmi said in a statement.
“Our goal is to build an environment that fosters diversity, inclusion and respect.”
UCF has a gender equity office and a gender diversity program.
In a statement, the school said the hires would be made in addition to other staff.
UCF already has an openly transgender women’s assistant professor in its department.
Transgender women are currently employed at the University of California, Berkeley, and several other universities.
Transgender advocates are fighting to make UCF a more inclusive school and the university is not alone in making this happen.
UCLA announced in September that it would hire a transgender woman to serve as associate dean of students.
UC Riverside announced last month that it was hiring a transgender assistant professor.
University of Pennsylvania, which has more than 70,000 students, is also hiring transgender students.
UCLA and UCF have not announced if the hires will be permanent.
