How to deal with ‘unwanted’ comments
Humans have a tendency to make rude comments and sometimes even downright malicious ones, according to a new study.
The study, which was conducted by a non-profit organisation, surveyed over 1,500 adults across the globe, to find out what the majority of people have in common and how they feel about their own behaviour.
According to the report, humans are often too shy to be candid about their feelings, and when they do, it often leaves them feeling embarrassed and hurt.
The researchers also found that many people feel they can’t take their own feelings out on someone else, and many feel that it is impossible to express their emotions in public without hurting the person they are talking to.
“Our study shows that people are sometimes afraid to say the right thing about themselves in public, which can lead to negative reactions from others,” said Professor M. Raghavan, co-author of the study and an associate professor at the Centre for Research on Women in Public Life, the University of London.
The results were presented at the annual conference of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), which is based in Atlanta, Georgia.
The conference aims to advance the field of gender studies and address some of the most pressing issues facing women and girls.
The paper was published in the Journal of the Royal Anthropological Institute.
