Why the Army is so keen to hire female officers
With an emphasis on diversity, the Army this year is inviting female officers to become full-time positions at the ranks.
The program is part of the Army’s “Vision 2020” plan to create a more diverse force, and the Army has already begun recruiting for the positions, the Associated Press reported.
More than 80% of the women in the Army are minorities, and about 35% are women of color.
While the Army currently does not have a specific gender quota for officer positions, some have expressed a desire to be more diverse.
The Army has also begun to make hiring decisions based on job qualifications, as well as job skills and leadership abilities, as part of a broader effort to improve gender diversity in the military.
